Beta and pricing

Is the public beta free?
Yes. The beta is unrestricted and needs no account, payment or license key.
What will Cargocat cost after the beta?
The founding license is planned as a $14.99 one-time purchase, not a subscription. It will include lifetime use, free future updates and all supported platforms. A 14-day full-featured trial will not require an account or payment card.
Is the beta ready for production storage?
It is real software, but it is still a beta. Start with a read-only connection and data you can recover. Amazon S3 is verified in real use, while MinIO, RustFS and Garage run through conformance and transfer suites. The other presets need broader field testing.
Will paid licenses have a refund window?
Yes. When sales open, paid licenses will have a 14-day refund window. Questions can go to support@cargocat.app.

Providers and compatibility

Which providers does it work with?
Presets ship for Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, MinIO, DigitalOcean Spaces, Scaleway, Storj, Hetzner Object Storage, Tigris, Akamai / Linode, Oracle Cloud, Ceph RADOS Gateway, RustFS and Garage, plus a generic option for other S3-compatible endpoints. Amazon S3 is verified in real use, while MinIO, RustFS and Garage run through conformance and transfer suites; the remaining presets need more field testing.
Why do the presets matter? Isn't S3-compatible a standard?
It is a spectrum rather than a standard. Providers differ on addressing style, region handling and which headers they accept. Each preset carries the known differences so you do not have to configure them from memory.
Do I have to configure CORS on my bucket?
No. Previews are served through a loopback range proxy running on your own machine, which hands each viewer an ordinary local URL. Nothing in the browser touches your bucket, so there is no cross-origin policy to change.
Does it work with self-hosted object storage?
Yes, including over plain HTTP on a private address. Path-style addressing and a custom endpoint are both first-class settings.

Security and credentials

Where are my access keys stored?
In the operating system keychain — Keychain Services on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows and Secret Service on Linux. Never in a plain-text config file, and never on our servers.
Does my data pass through your servers?
No. We operate no storage proxy, relay or cache. Requests go from your machine to the provider, using a network proxy only when you or your system configured one. Previews use a loopback server on your own machine.
What gets written to the logs?
An activity trail records what you changed locally for your own reference. Separate diagnostic logs redact credentials and signed URLs, disguise object keys with short digests, and remove your home-directory path.
Is there telemetry?
Yes, and it is anonymous and on by default. The app sends usage events from a fixed list to Aptabase and scrubbed crash reports to Sentry — never object keys, bucket names, endpoints or file paths. Turn both off under Settings → Privacy. The website has no analytics scripts, advertising trackers or cookies; it counts clicks on the download buttons by platform, version and country, without storing your IP address. See the privacy policy.

Platforms and updates

Which platforms are supported?
macOS 14.6 Sonoma or later, as a universal build for Apple silicon and Intel; Windows 10 or later on x64; and 64-bit Linux as an AppImage for most distributions or a .deb for Debian and Ubuntu.
Is the app signed?
The macOS build is Developer ID signed and notarized, and the Windows build is Authenticode signed. Linux has no equivalent publisher-identity signature for direct-download packages; its AppImage and .deb are signed for the updater. Windows SmartScreen may show a warning while our new code-signing identity builds its reputation.
How do updates work?
During the beta, download each new build from GitHub Releases. Automatic updates begin with the first stable release.
Is there a command-line version?
Not in the public download today. The beta ships as a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux.
